Who we are
Ailtire—Gaelic for “Architect”—reflects the spirit and philosophy at the heart of our practice. Founded by Irish-born Principal Architect Conor Mc Glue, Ailtire Architects brings a Celtic soul and a global perspective to every project.
Our identity is rooted in the enduring principles of architecture. We believe in clarity and simplicity—distilling each project to its essence before thoughtfully rebuilding it into something timeless and extraordinary. This approach ensures that every detail serves both purpose and beauty.
Conor established Ailtire Architects in 2019, drawing on over a decade of experience leading a successful heritage and conservation practice in Bath, England. Today, our work bridges continents, blending the rich architectural traditions of the UK with the dynamic landscapes of Australia.
With studios in Perth (our head office) and Bath, we operate across two countries, delivering projects that honour history while embracing innovation. Our collective experience and deep practical knowledge allow us to craft architecture that is as enduring as it is inspiring.
The scope of our work is diverse from heritage conservation works to refurbishment and new construction projects. Heritage related works are varied from residential projects to Grade I listed English castles. New build and refurbishment projects are similarly varied, encompassing schools, town halls, arts centres.
All work carried out by Ailtire Architects is founded in first principles which are aligned tightly with the terms of the Burra Charter and best conservation practice. We take great pride in our involvement in the conservation and restoration of many built environment projects alongside the cultural heritage conservation associated with these.

Our Skillset
At Ailtire Architects, we believe architecture should respect the past while embracing the future. Every project begins with first principles—stripping back to the fundamentals—before being thoughtfully rebuilt to achieve clarity, purpose, and excellence. We take our clients on this journey, ensuring their vision remains at the heart of every decision.
Heritage is our specialty, and our expertise includes:
- Practical Building Conservation – Preserving and restoring historically significant structures with precision and care.
- Adaptive Reuse & Refurbishment – Transforming existing buildings into functional, contemporary spaces while retaining their character.
- Additions & Alterations – Seamlessly integrating new elements into heritage contexts.
- Building Condition Assessments – Detailed evaluations to inform restoration strategies and long-term maintenance.
- Specialist Reporting – Preparation of CMPs, HIS, HIAs, and BCA compliance reports with authority and accuracy.
Our meticulous attention to detail extends beyond heritage projects to all aspects of architecture, from bespoke new builds to complex refurbishments.
We also undertake forensic architecture, providing in-depth analysis of existing buildings to identify issues, assess risks, and recommend practical solutions. With a comprehensive understanding of traditional construction and detailing, we diagnose root causes of defects and non-compliance, delivering independent, unbiased expert advice. This empowers our clients to make informed decisions that protect the integrity, longevity, and value of their buildings.
