MIDLAND JUNCTION ARTS CENTRE

The Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC), located in the heart of Midland, is a heritage-listed complex originally constructed in 1895 as the Midland Junction School. Designed in the Federation Free Classical style, the building has served various educational and cultural purposes over its long history. Today, MJAC operates as a vibrant community arts centre, hosting exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events that reflect its enduring significance to the local community.

Ailtire Architects were engaged by the City of Swan to guide the conservation and refurbishment of the site. Their work included detailed inspections and documentation, addressing the preservation of heritage fabric, structural repairs, and accessibility upgrades. Conservation works involved repointing external brickwork, repairing terracotta vents, refurbishing timber stairs, and restoring windows and doors.

These efforts have ensured the continued use and cultural relevance of MJAC. Ailtire’s sensitive approach has preserved the architectural integrity of one of Midland’s oldest buildings, supporting its role as a cornerstone of arts and culture in the region.
