NEDLANDS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Nedlands Primary School, located in Perth’s western suburbs, is a heritage-listed educational facility constructed in 1912 in the Federation Free Style. The school is recognised for its architectural and cultural significance, featuring red brickwork, limestone foundations, and decorative timber detailing. It remains an important part of the community’s educational and civic history.

Ailtire Architects were engaged to assess the school’s accessibility in alignment with Australian Standards for universal access. Their evaluation identified key areas for improvement to support individuals with mobility, sensory, and ambulatory impairments. A major intervention included the design and implementation of curved ramps linking the main school buildings to the oval, significantly increasing accessibility across the site and enabling inclusive participation in outdoor activities.

This project supports the long-term inclusivity of Nedlands Primary School, ensuring its facilities remain safe, functional, and accessible to all members of the community while respecting its heritage character.
