Perth Modern School, located in Subiaco, is a prominent educational institution comprising a complex of heritage-listed buildings. The most notable structures include the Federation Arts and Crafts-style entrance hall, administration and classroom building (constructed in 1911), alongside Post-War International style additions such as the teaching block and gymnasium. The site reflects the evolution of public education in Western Australia and remains a significant cultural and architectural landmark.
Ailtire Architects were engaged to investigate the condition of the building fabric, with a particular focus on the conservation of the clock tower. Their assessment led to a series of recommendations including the replacement of damaged and perished bricks, removal of paint from rendered surfaces, repointing of masonry, and general cleaning to restore the tower’s original character.
These conservation works contribute to the ongoing preservation of Perth Modern School’s heritage features, ensuring the site remains both functional and historically significant for future generations.
