WESLEY CHURCH

Wesley Church, located in Perth’s central business district, is a state heritage-listed building constructed in 1870 in the Victorian Academic Gothic style. With its prominent spire and detailed brickwork, the church is a landmark that contributes significantly to the city’s streetscape. Beyond its architectural value, Wesley Church reflects the history of Methodism in Western Australia and the broader development of the state and its community.

Ailtire Architects were engaged by the Uniting Church in the City (UCIC) to assess the condition of the brickwork of the church and prepare a comprehensive condition report. This included a prioritised schedule of works to guide conservation and repair. Through documentary and physical analysis, Ailtire identified a range of issues including structural defects, previous inappropriate works, and material deterioration.

The resulting recommendations provided a clear framework for preserving Wesley Church’s heritage significance while ensuring its safe and continued use as a place of worship and community gathering.
